It seems to me that the cleanest colored vinyl is the smooth and clear
translucent stuff, like the red reissues of Vince Guaraldi jazz albums from
Fantasy Records, and the translucent yellow remix of Yello's "I love you".
Everything else is crunchy as hell. I think this confirms drukman's statement
about non-recylcled vinyl. But as others have pointed out, this type of
colored
vinyl tends to be the exception. Alot of this has to do with the fact that
people
think colored vinyl is cool, but in general they don't want to have to
pay more for it. This means that people wanting to press on "special"
vinyl need to cut costs in order to have something sell for about
the same price as regular black vinyl, which means poor recycled vinyl and
colored dyes mixed from powders rather than liquids. I'm having a hard enough
time trying to get stores to carry my tracks pressed on heavier-than-usual
black virgin vinyl because they cost more. I can't imagine how much they
would have cost me if I pressed them on quality colored vinyl! You get what
you
pay for!
